Hi! My name is Emily Wagener (she/her) and I am a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at James Madison University. I am inspired by the power of accessible mental health care and am passionate about providing high-quality mental health services to the community. My approach to counseling is client-centered with respect to each individual’s unique healing journey. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, seen and supported through both life’s challenges and celebrations, and everything in between. I am also a Registered Dietitian with experience helping clients navigate body image and nutrition challenges. I am grateful to join the Innovative Family Therapy team in their mission to ensure individuals never feel alone in their struggles.  In my free time, I enjoy reading, taking CrossFit classes and exploring nature with my partner and our two dogs, Sadie and Bear.

Further information about counseling student interns:

A counseling intern is a student enrolled in a master’s level accredited counseling program who is working towards finishing the last portion of their degree by gaining clinical hours seeing clients under supervision.

Counseling interns are qualified to provide counseling under supervision and can work with a variety of areas. Counseling interns at Innovative Family Therapy are available to see children, teens, couples, and families in person and via teletherapy.

Counseling interns provide counseling services at a reduced cost of $20 per 50-60 minute session. If you are unable to afford the reduced rate, please contact us to inquire about further reduced rates or no cost counseling sessions.
